Public speaking is difficult for almost everyone. To be successful at it, you must have authority on the subject matter and have a high comfort level with speaking in front of an audience. These are the two focuses for me when I speak on a panel or as the guest speaker for a banquet, etc. I often serve as a speaker on business strategy, taking a company from EBITDA positive to Cash Flow Positive, real estate, growth strategies and the like.

Corporate Speaking Points
1) Subject Matter Matters
The first premise is that for a good speaking engagement, have an interest subject matter, one that is thought provoking and will cause back and forth with an audience.
2) Talk Loudly
You need to be able to speak loudly while also changing tone and emphasis—to keep you audience engaged. You need to flex your vocal chords!!
3) Practice, practice, practice!!
I practice at least 3 times before every speaking engagement—including practicing jokes and some ‘impromptu’ type comments. Reach out to local groups and organizations and offer to speak for free to hone your craft. That is what I do! Put in the leg work and get to a point where people invite you to speak!!
4) Tell A Story
Be engaging. The best way to be engaging is to tell a story—something that is coherent and cohesive. Something that your listeners will remember. This a big focus for me when I present.
As a speaker, sew a connective thread through all of the content. Also, focus on real life content and story-telling.
5) Document EVERYTHING
Every speech I do is recorded. Even if you have to use your phone, record it. Get yourself and the audience in the footage and recording. Ask your audience how they liked it and get constructive feedback. You want proof of the engagement and you want to be able to use it for the next engagement, that is, advertising!!!
